Seminar About Land Scam Sales

Join us this Saturday September 28th at Station 1 from 10:00-11:00 am to learn how you can protect yourself from fraudulent land and property sales, which are on the rise.

Please take this Land Scam class seriously. Bad actors are impersonating absentee owners or those who have land with no house on it. They sell your land and you won't know until you go to your property, only to find out someone else sold it in your name.

Come hear our guest Keri Roark from Fidelity National Title explain how it's happening, how you can protect yourself, and how your local title companies are fighting against it for you.

We hope to see you at this class on Saturday September 28th. It will be held at Station 1, upstairs in the training room. Refreshments will be served. This notice was in the latest Ristwatch. Call Louise for more information and if you would like to RSVP. Even if you don't RSVP come join us.

See the flyer (pdf) for more information. See you there!

Larry Sippel

Larry Sippel, a beloved friend, supporter, and dedicated member of the Rist Canyon Volunteer Fire Department (RCVFD), passed away recently. Born in Wyoming, Larry moved to Rist Canyon, Colorado, in the mid-1970s, where he made his home on Davis Ranch Road.

Larry joined the RCVFD close to its inception and devoted over 50 years to the service of his community. Throughout his tenure, Larry was instrumental in the development and growth of the fire department. His contributions extended far beyond the call of duty, as he trained firefighters, fought countless fires, assisted in medical emergencies, and supported the department with various other volunteer activities.

Known not only for his professional dedication, Larry was a cherished friend who always had a kind word, a helping hand, and a ready smile. He approached every challenge with a positive attitude and never shied away from any job, no matter how dangerous or demanding. His presence was a source of strength and encouragement to all who knew him.

Larry’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of his friends, family, and the entire RCVFD community. His legacy of service, camaraderie, and kindness will be remembered and honored by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed.

From Lori Hodges in the Larimer County Sheriff's Office:

Situation Update - The Alexander Mountain Fire fire is currently estimated at 1806 acres located north of Highway 34, west of Loveland, CO. The fire is 0% contained, and the cause is currently unknown and under investigation.

Multiple air resources dropped water and fire retardant throughout the day yesterday. Over 200 ground resources are on scene working with aviation assets. Airplanes and helicopters will be working to help secure the fire perimeter and protect values at risk. High temperatures and low humidity are expected throughout the day with near critical fire weather over the fire area. Significant smoke is expected over the next few days, with heavier impacts in the morning to sensitive populations.

At 6 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, a USDA Forest Service Type 3 Incident Management Team took command of the fire. Larimer County Sheriff's Office will continue to operate the Joint Information Center and provide information about evacuation notices, animal evacuations and road closures. For evacuation information visit https://www.nocoalert.org/ or text LCEVAC to 888777. The Joint Information Center can be reached at (970) 980-2500.

Fire west of Masonville

Alexander Mountain Fire is currently burning west of Masonville, and was last measured by Colorado's Multi-Mission Aircraft (MMA) at 255 acres about 30 minutes ago. Larimer County Sheriff is giving a ground estimate significantly higher than that, and evacuations around the area of the fire have been ordered.

At this time no structures in the Rist Canyon response area are threatened and no evacuation orders have come out for us yet. However, be advised that given the current weather conditions and behavior of this fire, the situation could change rapidly. Have your go-bag ready in case you need to leave in a hurry.

We will try to post further updates as needed, but we may be paged for a mutual aid response, taking us away from keyboards and internet access.

Red Flag Warning

The NWS has issued a Red Flag Warning for today, 14-July-2024, for all areas in Larimer County.
  • Timing: 12 PM to 9 PM MDT Sunday 07/14/2024.

  • Winds: Gusty winds up to 45 mph near showers and storms.

  • Relative Humidity: As low as 13 percent.

  • Impacts: Conditions will be favorable for lightning-induced ignitions from mostly dry thunderstorms. Locally erratic outflow winds near thunderstorms could promote rapid wildfire spread in the event of a new start. If a fire were to become established, conditions could be favorable for large vertical plume growth.

  • Thunderstorms: Isolated to scattered (15-25% coverage) of mostly dry thunderstorms is expected Sunday afternoon, potentially extending into early evening. Thunderstorms will be high-based, producing little, if any, precipitation, and thus resulting in an increased threat of lightning-induced ignitions.

See weather.gov for more information.
